The Non-Juicer Juice.

I gave up on my juicer about a month after getting a vitamix over this past summer.

Besides the fact that it was A COMPLETE PAIN IN THE ASS to clean, I read a lot about the pros & cons to juicing vs. whole food smoothies.

After a lot of research, I came away with the revelation that juicing is removing too much of the “good stuff”. Admittedly, I didn’t use the pulp leftover from juicing more than 25% of the time…which adds up to a lot of waste! Of course composting the pulp takes the true “waste” out of the equation, but why am I missing out on all that fiber and goodness?!

There’s definitely a time and a place for juicing; I just don’t think it’s right for me right now.

By blending whole fruits & veggies, you don’t lose any of the nutrition, you are fuller longer because of the fiber and you’re not wasting anything. Juicing on the other hand is great for a quick boost simply because of the lack of fiber, you absorb as much nutrients as you can very quickly.

Because I’m not a huge fan of the typical, thick, ice cold smoothie, I add cold water to my fresh and frozen fruit and veggies to thin it out. I use about 3 cups of fruit/veg to 2 cups of water.

Pictured above has been my favorite juice as of late: fresh orange, frozen mango and a lot of fresh mint. So good anytime of day!

I feel exactly the same about juices V smoothies. Am so addicted to my green smoothies every morning, I have mine at 8 and don’t feel any hunger at all until about 11.30 or 12, but usually I eat a little something in between anyway! 😛

I won a juicer this summer! but have not opened it yet.. I love my smoothies! I’m actually super intimidated by juicing! haha – I know you can’t mess it up, but somehow I haven’t done any yet!

I just recently started juicing a few months ago. I was always resistant for all your mentioned points but I had been experiencing terrible arthritis in my hip and my friend who swears by juicing said to try it bc he was positive it would make it go away and it did! Now I’m hooked. I’ll have to try this and see if I keep the hip pain away:)
